We’re getting married on a little slice of magic in the middle of the River Thames - D’Oyly Carte Island.
Only accessible by footbridge, the island is a peaceful, slightly wild and utterly charming spot that feels like a secret escape - even though it’s right on our doorstep.
It’s packed with character and has a colourful history. The island was once home to Richard D'Oyly Carte - the man behind the Savoy Theatre and Gilbert & Sullivan operas - and over the years it's hosted artists, writers and a few eccentric guests (including a pet crocodile - the inspiration behind Peter Pan's Tick-Tock the Crocodile).
What we love most about the island is how personal it feels. Intimate. Unusual. Romantic. And close to home - which just felt right for us.
The ceremony will take place in the wild flower garden on the East side of the island, surrounded by nature and (hopefully) sunshine. Afterwards, we'll move to the West garden for the drinks reception, followed by the wedding breakfast. Once we've eaten, we'll be heading down to the island's very own riverfront bar for dancing and general merriment.
We can’t wait to share it all with you.
